Summer vacations are a break from normal routines and familiar scenery. If you are like me, vacations aren’t necessarily lazy and restful, since there is so much to do and see in your new surroundings. Taking a brisk sunrise walk leads to breakfast, which becomes a poolside conversation and fun. Suddenly it’s lunchtime and everyone is talking about going shopping, and you are still in your workout tank and shorts from the early morning exercise. Instead of throwing fashion and looking your best out the window, here are some ideas of how look great and be ready in a minute’s notice for the next phase of fun or new adventure.
Use multi-functional pieces. Clothing items that can serve a couple of different functions by just adding the right accessories, for example transforming a swimsuit cover-up to dinner attire. When traveling, having multi-functional clothing items save space in your travel bag and ease to your outfit options.
Kate at the Board of Trade Consignment Boutique in Roswell helped me select some pieces to demonstrate how to go from poolside to tableside.
My model Jocelyn Schutz is a native of Martinique, a French Caribbean island. Her sunny disposition and flowing “beachy” hair is the perfect combination to show off how to look your best in a minute’s notice after playing in the sun all day.
This multi-colored sundress by Rory Becca is a poolside cover-up with a Jordan Tyler black mesh topper and island-y thong sandals. When cocktail hour arrives, trade the mesh topper for an Eileen Fisher drapey cocoon topper, Via Spiga black cork wedges, a small straw handbag and colorful statement jewelry. Jocelyn pins back her curls for a more controlled ‘do’ for evening.
A bright solid colored pocket maxi by Susan Monaco can double as a swimsuit cover-up with low-heeled hydrangea slides and a straw sun hat. When the dinner bell rings, no need to spend an hour primping in your room while the fun starts. Trade the large straw beach bag for a small gold Michael Kors gold cross-body bag, Bruno Menagatti gold sandals, and matching statement necklace. Jocelyn amends her ‘hat hair’ by using a colorful coordinating scarf as a headband.
Wide-legged Linen Pants:
A loose fitting white linen pant by Lilly Pulitzer is a great beach cover-up. Remembering the Secret of 3’s (wearing three items of the same color to create a pulled-together look) Jocelyn wears a black/aqua/green tankini top by Kechika and black Prada slides and matching black straw bag to hold her beach towel. When her group decides to take a last minute jaunt into town, she transforms her outfit with a black and white tribal top by Love Notes, and black Via Spiga cork wedges. Bring some color to your black and white outfits by adding a colorful clutch like this Shira Leah blue striped one and unforgettable collar necklace in a similar tone. C’est magnifique, Jocelyn!
