Spring Fashion in the Trenches

by Lori Wynne

Spring is an invigorating time of year, but the weather can be fickle making wardrobe choices difficult. You may experience as much as a forty degree difference in temperature in one day. How is a Pretty Sister to dress in this ever changing season? Here is a fashion basic every woman should own.

The brightly colored trench is everywhere and you MUST have one. Hot pink, coral, red, navy, spring green, white, cream and two toned floral patterns are the colors to look for. Closet your black and tan trenches for the fall season. Belted or princess seamed, hip length or mid-thigh, or just above the knee this classic piece will complete a casual outfit, warm you and your spring frock, and add colorful pizzazz to your casual business attire.

If you are full figured, stay away from a double breasted trench coat. Instead, look for single button, deep V, small lapels and avoid epaulettes.

If you are very petite, make sure your trench coat fits you in the shoulders (shoulder seams MUST be at the point of your shoulder), arm length (cuff reaches just past your wrist) and avoid purchasing a trench that is longer than knee length.

Here's how to wear it:

Wear a red, mid-thigh length trench open over a crisp white shirt and a pair of dark jeans and ballet flats. Viola! You're ready for lunch with the girls

Need to run to the store or the school in a hurry? Does it look like rain? Wear a hip length trench open over a tee, Capri pants, wedge sandals and you will instantly looked pulled together.

A princess seamed, just above the knee length trench will keep you from feeling the blustery spring wind while you wear your new spring dress.

Wear a bold colored, hip length trench, closed and belted with a neutral colored top and pencil skirt and heels for a great business look. Don't forget a silky or sheer scarf to really pull the outfit together.

Spring trench coats can be found in all price ranges and as a fashion basic it's good to have more than one. They flatter many body types and the classic lines will stay in style for years to come.
