Holiday Fashion Tips

by Lori Wynne

Here are some great tips that I found that ring true for all of us. It's not too late to use these holiday fashion tips for late December parties, New Year's, Valentine's and your annual winter cruise.

1. Little Black Dress

Nothing is simpler than this little number for your upcoming parties. The most flattering length is just below the knee. Choose a classic style that you can wear year after year. Invest in one in velvet, satin, jersey or crepe. Mine is four years old and was definitely worth the investment.

2. Beaded Top

Don't go too crazy with the glitz. A beaded cardigan or a few sequins on a top can go a long way to helping you look festive without looking like a Christmas tree. Pair it with a pair of black slacks or a straight skirt for a classic look.

3. Soft Trousers

Black or winter white wide legged slacks can be worn with a sexy top or jacket. You can find these in velvet, crepe or satin.

4. Dressy Wrap

These not only look festive but can cover bare shoulders too. Embellished or fringed shawls can dress up a plain outfit. Make sure to match the weight of the shawl with your outfit. You wouldn't want to pair a sheer shawl with a velvet dress.

5. Perfect Clutch Bag

Complete your outfit with a dressy little purse. Don't overspend on this item, as it isn't an every day accessory. Straps that allow you to hang it over your shoulder or from your wrist are fine, but carrying a clutch in your hand is fashionably best.

6. Dressy Mules

The permanent solution to open toed shoes in the winter. They look great with sheer hosiery and pants or skirts.

7. Velvet Jacket

A classic piece that can look current in deep berry tones or black. Plain white blouses and black slacks look dressed up when paired with a burnt out velvet jacket.

8. Diamond Earrings

A little glam goes a long way. If you can swing it (and there are plenty of good buys out there), real diamonds are the only way to go. Hoops, drops and studs are all popular styles. Just pair your earrings to your updo (the more pulled back/up your hair, the longer the earring)

9. Shimmery Powder

My favorite accessory. Create a little accent on your temples, cheeks, collarbone, cleavage and hair. The most important thing to remember is shimmer, NOT glitter. Don't forget the red lipstick!

10. Sexy Camisole

Paired under a low cut sweater, peaking out of a jacket or blouse, this little item can make you feel festive. Look for lace or bead embellishments to complete the effect.
